Originally from Kansas, Mark was born into a very musical family and was introduced to the trumpet by his father at 7 years of age. He took music lessons on piano, guitar and trumpet from various members of his family. He seriously began studying trumpet in high school and grew up performing in church as well as many community organizations and in the ranks of local Drum and Bugle Corps until age 21. Mark also toured with the Kansas All State Lyons Band for 2 years. He studied trumpet with Dr. Paul Shull at Kansas State University and was a member of the KSU Marching Band, Concert Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, KSU Brass Choir and Trumpet Choir. He was the KSU student chapter president for the National Association of Jazz Educators.
Mark moved to Denver, Colorado with his wife Debbie in 1984. He traveled throughout the south and western United States with his brothers Mike and Rod (The Baker Brothers) in Christian Music Ministry until he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1989. Mark has been involved with many community ensembles throughout Colorado and is currently performing on Eb Cornet with the Fountain Creek Brass Band, the Fountain Creek Versatile Brass and principal Bb trumpet with the Rocky Mountain Wind Symphony in Colorado Springs. He is also a member of the Colorado Brass Band in Gunnison, Colorado and the Castle Rock Jazz Quintet in Castle Rock, Colorado. He has been on staff with the Colorado Ambassadors of Music since 2004. For 20 years, Mark has been the Minister of Worship at ChristLife Community Church in Franktown, Colorado. Mark and his wife Debbie reside in Monument, Colorado with their 2 dogs Sachmo and Miles.
